Update: The path between Bucerias and Nuevo Vallarta has been closed to all motor traffic – that included motorcycles, scooters and golf carts. We are working on alternative routes but to date nothing else is tenable.
Rules of the Road:
- You must stay off all highways – these are marked in yellow.
- Golf carts are not allowed on any street where the speed limit is over 40km/hr.
- Driving on the laterals is acceptable for very short distances and only when there is no other option. Backtrack and use residential streets to cross town.
- Crossing Highway 200 can be dangerous and should only be crossed where there are traffic lights. Crossing under the river bridge is your best option to get from one side of the highway to the other.
- The crossing going north from Javier Mina across to Estaciones by the new CMQ Hospital is particularly dangerous going North and should only be attempted when you are first or 2nd at the light – it is a long intersection and vehicles jumping the light on the highway may get you in trouble. Never start crossing when you have a flashing green light at any intersection as cars/motorcycles/taxis jumping a green light may pose a danger.
- Note that on Highway 200, left turns can only be made from the left hand lane of the right lateral. Again remember that golf carts are not allowed on the center 4 lanes of the highway ever, only while crossing the highway. For brief description of turning left on the lateral see the following excerpt from my wife’s blog Karen moves to Mexico
- At no time should you go the wrong direction on a lateral.
- Do not go outside the area boundaried in red and remember if you see a speed limit of 60km/hr posted you are not supposed to be there.
- No offroading
- No open alcohol in the carts while in motion.
- ABSOLUTELY NO GOLF CARTS ON THE BEACH!!
